New Scan Type – Stencils

I’m adding a new scan category called “Stencils”.

Stencils are for projection painting displacement details onto models, and are significantly higher resolution than alphas. They are ideally suited for use with Mari and Mudbox where projection painting is a core part of workflow.

Stencils can range anywhere from 8MP – 36MP equivalent. This resolution boost should prove useful where high resolution assets are needed, such as in cinema visual fx, or cinematic games trailers.

Unlike alphas, generally stencils will not tile. This means unique or inherently non-tiling content is best for stencils, such as faces, cracks, manhole covers, leaves etc.

For starters, I’ve added three stencils that show the level of details available. Most stencils will sell for $5 or $10, depending on the cost of the subject matter and resolution. I’m currently working on lifecasting sections of human skin and faces for future stencils, but stencils will cover most categories eventually.
